Day 1: Arrival: Chennai
On
arrive at Chennai, you will be greeted by our representative and
transferred to the hotel. You could spend the afternoon either at leisure
or take a short local tour of the city. Amongst the must visits in
Chennai, is The Marina Beach - the second longest beach in the world. The
gorgeous golden sands invite innumerable tourists especially during the
evenings. The British East India Company's St. George Forte is a famous
landmark of Chennai. Another colonial structure in the city of Chennai
worth visiting is the Santhome Cathedral. Late in the evening you could
visit one of the Pubs in Chennai and enjoy your time partying. Over night
stay at Chennai.
Day 2: Chennai - Mahabalipuram - Kanchipuram (60 kms - 65 kms)
After morning breakfast, drive to Mahabalipuram, a 7th century port city
of the South Indian dynasty of the Pallavas, which is around 58kms from
Chennai. It has various historic monuments built largely between the 7th
and the 9th century, and has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage
Site. In the afternoon drive from Mahabalipuram to Kanchipuram, which is
around 65kms. Kanchipuram is a spectacular temple city and is one of the
seven sacred cities of India. The temples and gopurams are exquisite
reminders of the beauty of Dravidian architecture. The Ekambareshwara
Temple, which has a 59-metre-high gopuram, a 1000-pillared hall and a
sacred mango tree said to be 3500 years old, is the highlight of this
city. Kanchipuram is also famous for its hand-woven silk fabrics.
Late in the evening drive back to Chennai and over night stay Chennai.
Day 3: Chennai - Pondicherry (160 kms)
After breakfast in the morning, check out hotel and drive to Pondicherry.
Pondicherry, a relatively peaceful town as far as tourist movement goes,
is an enchanting and fascinating place. Whether you are looking for a
romantic rendezvous or a fun filled resort vacation, Pondicherry can
accommodate all of your gateway desires. On arrival at Pondicherry, check
in at the hotel and spend the afternoon at leisure. In the evening you
could visit the Sri Aurobindo Ashram. It's a unique spiritual concept
revolving around offering work as a Divine offering. The activities of the
ashram include the development of art, culture, and spiritually, besides
agriculture and cottage industries. Over night stay at Pondicherry.
Day 4: Pondicherry
After
breakfast in the morning, you could enjoy the entire day on the beautiful
beaches of Pondicherry. The pick among the beaches are: Serenity Beach-
the ambience is well captured in its name, and is ideal for a quick dip
and for sun bathing. The Plage Paradiso beach: 8kms from the town, along
Cuddalore Main Road, lies this stretch of tropical paradise. A short,
pleasant cruise into the sea from here could reward you with the memorable
sight of playful dolphins in natural habitat, horsing around. Over night
stay at Pondicherry.
Day 5: Pondicherry - Thanjavur (170 kms)
Morning after breakfast, check out hotel and drive to Thanjavur.
Thanjavur, the Granary of South India, is famous for the Brahadeeswarar
Temple. The temple, which was constructed more than thousand years ago by
the King Rajarajan, is an architect's marvel. It is a flourishing centre
for bronze sculpture and painting. Lying in the deltaic region of the
famous river Cauvery and criss-crossed by lengthy network of irrigation
canals, Thanjavur is also known as the ' Rice Bowl ' of Tamil Nadu.
En-route to Thanjavur you can visit Chidambram, a city renowned for its
famous Nataraja Temple. One of the holiest cities in India, Chidambaram is
visited by thousands of pilgrims throughout the year. On arrival at
Tanjore, check in at the hotel and spent some time at leisure relaxing. In
the evening visit the famous Brahadeeswarar Temple. Over night stay at
Thanjavur.
Day 6: Thanjavur -Trichy - Madurai (160 kms)
After morning breakfast, check out hotel and drive to Trichy. Trichy
situated on the banks of the Cauvery River is famous for its Rock Fort and
its temple at a height of over 83 meters. The most amazing fact about the
rock is that it is one of the oldest in the world - approximately 3,800
million years, which makes it as old as the rocks of Greenland and older
than the Himalayas. Later in the afternoon, drive to Madurai, the second
largest city in TamilNadu. It is famous for the Meenakshi Temple with its
towering gopurams and rare sculptures. On arrival check-in at the hotel
and spend the evening at leisure. Over night stay at Madurai.
Day 7: Madurai - Kodaikanal (82 kms)
Early next morning visit the famous Madurai Meenakshi Temple. Later in
the afternoon check out from the hotel, and drive to Kodaikanal- a
charming hill station, that stands amidst sylvan beauty. With its rocks,
woods, lovely lake and bracing air, Kodaikanal is an ideal hill resort for
tourists. On arrival, check in at resort and the rest of the evening is at
leisure. Over night stay at Kodaikanal.
Day 8: Kodaikanal
After
breakfast, the entire day is for a local tour of Kodaikanal.The main
attractions in Kodaikanal includes Coaker's Walk -Some of the best views
of the plains can be seen from here. Bryant Park- situated on the eastern
side of the lake, it is noted for flowers, hybrids and rafts, Kodai
Astrophysical Observatory, Bear Shola Falls- An ideal picnic spot located
1.6-km from the lake, which can be reached by a picturesque, rugged hill
path. Fairy Falls, Pillar Rocks -three boulders standing shoulder - to -
shoulder vertically measuring to a height of about 122 metres, providing a
panoramic view. Green Valley View and Silver Cascade Waterfalls. The Kodai
Lake is also another major attraction. Over night stay at Kodaikanal.
Day 9: Departure: Kodaikanal - Madurai (82 kms)
Morning after breakfast, check out from resort and drive to Madurai
airport for your onward journey.
